What is Autism Speaks? and Why should you consider donating?

Autism Speaks is an autism advocacy organization in the United States that sponsors autism research and conducts awareness and outreach activities aimed at families, governments, and the public. It was founded in February 2005 by Bob Wright, vice chairman of General Electric, and by his wife Suzanne, a year after their grandson Christian was diagnosed with autism.

Autism Speaks stated as its goal "to accelerate and fund biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments and cure for autism spectrum disorders; to increase awareness of the disorder; and to improve the quality of life of affected individuals and their families."

Autism Speaks supports research in four main areas:
  • Etiology includes genetic and environmental factors that may cause autism. This research includes searches for autism susceptibility genes, animal models for autism, environmental toxins, and maternal viral infections.
  • Biology studies cells, the brain, and the body. This focuses on brain development and includes the Autism Tissue Program discussed further below.
  • Diagnosis includes epidemiology, early diagnosis, and biomarkers.
  • Autism therapies include medication, behavioral, and psychological interventions. It includes treatments for co-occurring medical conditions in children which are unrelated to autism, such as sleep disorders and gastrointestinal conditions that may hinder behavioral interventions, along with treatments for older individuals, and complementary and alternative medicine.

What does the NJ AIDS WALK fund? and Why should you consider donating?

For over 20 years AIDS walks have been hosted throughout the state by many different organizations — all competing for the sunniest days and the most walkers. In 2010, a consortium of the leading HIV service organizations joined forces to create the first unified, state-wide, New Jersey AIDS Walk.

With record attendance and beautiful weather, New Jerseyans from a cross-section of socio-economic demographics, joined to fight for a world without AIDS.

Please help us continue a New Jersey tradition of service and charity by participating in the New Jersey AIDS Walk. The funds we raise comprise large portions of the programming budgets for the 5 contributing organizations. They rely on the New Jersey AIDS Walk to save lives.Join us on May 4th. Walk with your friends in your own community!

What is CCFA TAKE STEPS? and Why should you consider donating?

The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization whose mission is to cure Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and improve the quality of life of children and adults affected by these diseases.

Today, the organization has grown to 41 local chapters, with more than $200 million raised and invested in research for cures. This funding has enabled many groundbreaking treatments, improved the quality of care for individuals with these conditions, and brought hope to countless lives.

This year, our team will be walking in the Take Steps for the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA). Take Steps is CCFA's national walk and celebration and the nation's largest event dedicated to finding cures for inflammatory bowel diseases. Over 1.4 million American adults and children are affected by these digestive diseases.

While many suffer in silence, Take Steps brings together this community in a fun, energetic and supportive atmosphere. Your donation will help support local patient programs, as well as important research projects. In addition to donating, you can join us at the event as a member of our team. The more money we raise, the closer we will be to making life more manageable for patients who live with these diseases everyday.
